Deborah Jeanne Weitzman

Singer - Songwriter

I sing and record as Deborah Jeanne, (at times more intimately as just Deborah), playing guitar, and piano. While I am often accompanied by marvelous musicians, I also enjoy giving solo concerts. My desire is to perform with a depth of spirit and emotion, and …humor.

A native New Yorker, I’ve had the great fortune of traveling the world extensively with my music, and living in many places - in the US, South America and Europe, which has allowed me the chance to develop a broad and rich perspective. These experiences have defined me and given my music a unique texture. Despite the globalization (and seemingly boring-ization) of the world, my intent is to rekindle and awaken a particular and yet universal sense of what it means to be a person. I am a sailor of the soul and an old-fashioned romantic.

A keen and serious dancer as well - Argentine Tango, Salsa, Greek, and Flamenco amongst others - I can not help but weave the rhythmic and melodic variations from the world’s stock into my songs.

Since my debut in 1990 at the Freight and Salvage concert hall in Berkeley California I’ve toured extensively through North America, Europe and more recently Argentina.(See tour list) I’ve made five recordings of original songs and one for recording for children (See discography) and am currently preparing for my next recording. My songwriting has been honored by awards from the American Society of Composers and Artists (ASCAP).
